Trainee paraplanner

Remote / home-based (UK)
Full-time (35 hours) or part-time / flexible hours considered
Salary: £25,000 – £30,000 (depending on experience and qualifications)

Who we are

Navigatus is an outsourced paraplanning firm supporting small, values-led financial planning practices across the UK. Since 2017, we have grown steadily and built a team that cares deeply about doing the right thing for advisers and their clients.

We love paraplanning. We care about the people we work with. We go the extra mile when it matters. And we are a genuine team – we support each other, share ideas and leave the office politics at the door (or rather, at the home office door).

We were proud to be named Team of the Year at the Professional Paraplanner Awards, and one of our team was named Team Leader of the Year. But what we are most proud of is the team we have built – people who care about quality, integrity and each other.

Why this role exists

Our work is growing, and we would like to welcome one (or more) trainee paraplanners into the Navigatus crew.

You will join a friendly, professional and supportive team who will help you learn the craft of paraplanning: understanding clients’ stories, researching options and turning recommendations into clear, compliant documents that help people make good financial decisions.

This is a role for someone who wants to build a long-term career in paraplanning. It is not a stepping stone into a financial adviser role, as we do not offer that progression path within the business.

Is this role for you?

You’ll likely enjoy and thrive in this role if you:

  • Have a genuine interest in personal finance and financial planning, and want to develop real technical skills over time
  • Take pride in doing thoughtful, careful, high-quality work rather than cutting corners
  • Are organised, methodical and comfortable following and improving established processes
  • Enjoy working with words as well as numbers – you have strong written English, good attention to detail and you like research and analysis
  • Have a friendly, professional approach and enjoy working as part of a supportive team
  • Are open to learning, asking questions and growing your knowledge and skills step by step
  • Are comfortable using IT systems and happy to learn new tools
  • Want to work for a business that puts client outcomes, quality and long-term relationships at the heart of what it does

We do not need you to have financial services qualifications already. We will fund and support your studies towards the Regulated Diploma in Financial Planning (Level 4) and give you time and practical experience to bring your learning to life.

We do, however, expect you to have some solid experience in a workplace or professional environment. You might be:

  • Working in an administrative, customer service or coordinator role and looking for a new direction
  • In financial services already (for example, at a provider or in adviser support) and keen to move into paraplanning
  • Coming from another sector, such as education, healthcare, the Armed Forces community, charity or church administration, where you’ve been the organised, dependable person who keeps things on track
  • Returning to work after a break and looking for a flexible, long-term professional role
  • If you recognise yourself in some of these descriptions and like the sound of what you’ve read so far, we’d love to hear from you.

When this might not be the right role

To help you decide, this role is probably not right for you if:

  • Your main goal is to become a financial adviser – we do not have an adviser career path within Navigatus
  • You dislike detail, written work or working with processes and templates
  • You want a fast-paced sales environment or a large corporate career ladder
  • You find working from home on a regular basis difficult or isolating

What you will do

We will give you a structured training plan and plenty of support. Over time, you will:

  • Gather information from financial planners, clients and providers to support the advice process
  • Help clarify clients’ goals and identify the data needed to build their financial plan
  • Prepare clear plan review summaries
  • Obtain product information, research data and illustrations, and assist in analysis and comparisons
  • Support the drafting of simple suitability reports and annual review documents under supervision
  • Keep client records accurate, well organised and compliant with agreed procedures
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with the team, advisers and other stakeholders, both in writing and by phone or video call
  • Gradually take on more responsibility and deeper technical tasks as your knowledge and confidence grow

You will be supported and supervised throughout – we do not expect you to know everything from day one.

How we work and what we value

Our values are at the heart of how we work together and with our clients:

  • We love what we do – we are passionate about paraplanning and helping advisers deliver exceptional advice.
  • We care – about our work, our clients and each other. We want what is best for everyone involved.
  • We do whatever it takes – we take pride in our work and aim to deliver excellence, going above and beyond when it matters.
  • We are a team – we believe we achieve more together than alone. We respect, support and look out for each other.
  • We adapt and grow – we embrace learning, improve our processes and stay curious so we can serve advisers and their clients better.

If these values resonate with you, there is a good chance you will feel at home at Navigatus.

What we offer

Working environment

  • Remote working from home, with all the IT equipment and support you need to work comfortably
  • Flexible working patterns – full-time (35 hours) or part-time, with options such as compressed hours or school-friendly days, by agreement
  • A friendly, encouraging working environment where people genuinely support each other – no office politics, realistic expectations and open communication
  • A workplace where you can be yourself – we actively support people working around caring responsibilities, school runs, and different working styles

Professional development**

  • Full support for exam study – we pay for all materials and course fees for the Regulated Diploma in Financial Planning (Level 4)
  • Study leave around exam time
  • Professional membership fees paid (including CII membership if pursuing the Chartered route)
  • A variety of work, so you gain broad paraplanning experience across different advice firms and client scenarios
  • Regular one-to-one check-ins and mentoring support, so you are never left to “just get on with it” without guidance
  • A clear path to grow your responsibilities and expertise as you develop

Reward and wellbeing

  • 25 days of holiday in addition to bank holidays
  • A day off on your birthday if it falls on a working day
  • An additional day off at Christmas – our “Snowflake Day” (because we all need to recharge after the festive rush)
  • A Recharge Day – a day off for the whole team to focus on wellbeing, usually after the tax year end, when we really need to pause and recover
  • Quarterly bonus structure based on team performance
  • Death in service benefit
  • Company pension contributions
  • Private Medical Insurance (after 2 years of service, as a loyalty reward)

Salary and progression

The starting salary for this role is £25,000 – £30,000, depending on your existing experience and qualifications.

  • If you are completely new to financial services but have strong transferable skills, you can expect an offer towards the lower end of the range.
  • If you already have relevant experience or some exams under your belt, we would expect to reflect that within the range.

As you gain qualifications and experience, there will be scope for your responsibilities and salary to grow in line with your development, with a clear focus on becoming a confident, competent paraplanner.
